Intention Versus Expection

Question:

I am reading about how important setting an intention is, and how detrimental expectations can be. I would like to know where an intention becomes an expectation. And how can I avoid crossing that line? ~GS

Answer:

Good question, GS!

Kabbalah means ‘receiving’ but our intention (or agenda) determines how much we, as a vessel, can truly receive. My intention can be to Receive for Oneself Alone or to Receive for the Sake of Sharing. The latter makes me a perfect vessel to receive. For example, “I want to get this job so I can share more with my increased salary.’

Expectation leans more towards the Desire to Receive for the Self Alone. This is why it can be detrimental. Intention becomes expectation when we can’t let go. For example, we may set the intention and ‘expect’ something that we want, but it may not be exactly what we need! That’s why kabbalists set intentions, but always leave room for the Light to provide something even better.

Wishing you the best of luck as you continue on your path.
