Lesson Highlights

  • Panim Masbirot (Rav Ashlag)
  • There is no difference between the essence of the Soul and the Creator; besides that, the Soul is a part, and the Creator is the whole
  • Rav Ashlag poses two questions:
  • How can we take a concept so God-like and compare it to a stone and a mountain (from the Ari)?
  • What does it mean to take a part of the Creator?
  • Rav Ashlag answers:
  • In the realm of spirituality, separation has a different meaning; spiritual essences are separated from each other only with a change of form
  • There is a spiritual law that says there are many different Vessels (levels of desires) within humanity and many nefashot (lower levels of the soul)
  • The nefashot are different, according to the different Vessels (desires)
  • The body separates Vessels
  • Part of being reactive involves not knowing how to separate different Vessels (desires) that do not necessarily belong to us (relate to our Vessel)
  • In spiritual matters, the moment we change the form (i.e., a new Vessel- desire), it becomes separated from the one that came before it
  • One of the biggest forms of Restriction we can practice is when we decide we want something, and we do not fluctuate, we do not go back and forth looking for something else

Homework: Practice being clear with your desires. Once you decide you want something, stick with it. There may be an inclination to second-guess, to consider other options; practice restriction in these moments. Observe what happens when you stay focused on one desire.

Lesson Description

In this lesson, Yehuda introduces the concept of the part and the whole as it relates to our relationship to the Light of the Creator. Learn how being reactive or fluctuating in our desires creates separation from complete, unified Light.

About This Course

Rav Yehuda Ashlag, renowned founder of The Kabbalah Centre, wrote several seminal kabbalistic texts that illustrate key understandings for applying the ancient wisdom into our lives. Amongst his works is a book on the Tree of Life – otherwise known as the Ten Emanations/Sefirot that make up our reality – which provides a foundation on how to connect with the consciousness behind each of the Ten Emanations, giving us the ability to awaken that particular level in our life. Join us for an in-depth study of each of the Ten Emanations as detailed in Rav Ashlag’s book, 'Tree of Life with Panim Meirot and Panim Masbirot'. As we study Rav Ashlag’s powerful insights into the Sefirot, we’ll learn how to build a unified consciousness with the intention of elevating not only ourselves, but the entire world to a level free from pain and suffering.
