On December 4th, according to the kabbalistic calendar, we will experience an important astrological event: the New Moon in Capricorn combined with a total solar eclipse in Sagittarius. If you’ve been paying attention to eclipses, you already know how powerful they are. The solar eclipse in Sagittarius brings an energy that has the power to clear karma or the idea that “what goes around comes around.” This is the last eclipse of this season on the lunar nodes of the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, which is the axis of knowledge and how we make sense of the world.
So, what can we expect from the solar eclipse in Sagittarius? Well, Sagittarius is the sign of the philosophy of life, higher truth, religion, long-distance travel, and higher education. Many of us will not accept being told what to think and what to believe in. Changes may occur in the way information is communicated to us, truths may surface, and things that have been hidden may come to light. Take note when some irrefutable beliefs or moral standards are questioned; important laws may be changed.
This New Moon in Capricorn is anything but comfortable. On the contrary, it is serious and demands your utmost attention. The results of our work are not so much about our physical effort as about our spiritual effort. It is important to truly believe that blessings do not come to us as a result of our own physical actions. Rather, they come from the universe and our spiritual efforts to connect to the Creator draw blessings to us.
The portion of Vayigash, a story about family members “coming close” together after a long separation, unfolds this week. They had been separated in space and in time, as well as emotionally and spiritually. Judah came close to Joseph. In this story, the idea of “coming close” means drawing near to the Light of the Creator. There are certain things we can do to help us move closer to the Light, while other things cause us to become more distant. For instance, sharing brings us closer, while doubt and anger push us away. This week’s energy gives us the power to come closer to the Light of the Creator. When our ego (the sun) and our mind (Mercury) come closer together as one, as in this week's portion, it’s a sign of wisdom. It is time to let it be, not “let it go.” Meaning, what is meant to be, will be; what is meant to unfold will unfold.
