The portion of this week tells the story of two negative leaders called Balak and Bilaam, who used all sorts of dark forces, like sorcery, the evil eye, and evil tongue to try to attack others. The Zohar gives us a code. It is interesting that if you take the words Balak and Bilaam and rearrange them, the letters, you can form the words bilbal(confusion) and amalek(doubt). Kabbalists teach that, in essence, the people were being attacked by the forces of self-doubt and confusion.
This week offers us a great opportunity to overcome self-doubt. We have just begun the month of Cancer, which is ruled by the moon. As we know, the moon does not have light of its own. This, combined with the energy of Cancer, gives us a feeling of lacking confidence.
Do I really have the power to overcome this challenge?
Will I make it out of this situation?
Am I worth it?
Am I good enough?
All of these questions of self-doubt are the result of the combined forces of Balak and Bilaam.
As the saying goes, where there is venom, there is the antidote. The week begins with the moon in Leo—energy that rules self-confidence and leadership. We have an opportunity to tap into the courage we need to accomplish very demanding tasks. Use this support to resist your ego and self-doubt. In moving past our fears, we can find great clarity.
We can all receive a boost of confidence this week, an opportunity to feel our inner confusion and self-doubt, and paradoxically step like royalty to fight these inner adversaries.
