The week of Vayeshev is considered to be the most chaotic of the entire Torah. First, we see the ten sons of Jacob actually sell their younger brother, Joseph, into slavery! Then, Jacob enters a state of deep sadness. And then, we see the significant mistakes Yehuda makes.
Yet, the story has the best possible ending. As a slave, Joseph is taken to Egypt, where he eventually rules and saves the people from famine through his knowledge and spiritual awareness. We move from chaos to miracles.
The ancient book, Sefer Yetzira, attributes the energy of the letter nun, which rules "falling," to Scorpio. In addition, the letter that represents Sagittarius is samech, which rules "raising up." Samech needs the nun, and the other way around, because the further one falls, the higher they have the potential to rise. This is the lesson of this week as the sun completes its cycle in Scorpio and enters Sagittarius.
And what happens as the sun touches the line that connects Scorpio and Sagittarius in the sky? In the zodiac region where nun touches samech, the darkness becomes Light. That is why the Hebrew word for miracles is ness (formed by nun and samech). The sun (which illuminates and fortifies everything) touches the place of miracles in the sky.
During the week of Vayeshev, just as the greatest miracles are born out of the most chaos, we too can practice looking at difficult aspects of our lives and transform our thoughts into positive ones. Notice where there is a concealed blessing, even when our minds do not perceive it. There is Light here. This is good!
It's a week of internal work. Don't worry about the external—whether it's chaotic or not, try to perceive the hidden blessings! When the sun enters Sagittarius, the ability to feel the good in the darkness becomes easier, but we must not forget: it is only due to the chaos that we are able to see it. So appreciate the “fall” because it leads us to the “rising up.”
