Welcome to the New Moon of Gemini. After experiencing the heaviness of the previous month, we welcome the levity and lightness this new month of Gemini can offer. This is the third month in the astrological year, hinting at its unique gifts and power. Gemini is represented by the twins. We know that the constellation’s image that represents each sign gives insight into the inner qualities and secrets of the month. When I think of twins, I am reminded of the two cherubs of gold that were placed on the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark is the physical housing for the stone tablets which were inscribed with the Ten Utterances. The Ten Utterances are our spiritual manual for life given to us by the Creator during this month of Gemini. The Torah states, “The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover.” The cherubim were identical twin angels of gold forever residing over one of the most holy items in all of history. These twin angels were different, yet the same. There were two separate entities, but they were mirror images of each other. The angels reveal to us a secret about ourselves. We, too, have a twin, a mirror image. His identity is revealed very early in the Torah when it states, “So God created man in His own image.” We are the children of the Creator and therefore, each of us is made in the Creator’s image. We each have within us the “God gene.” The Creator is, indeed, in each and every one of us.
"We are microcosms of the Universe."
We are, in many ways, a twin to the Creator. We know our bodies comprise the ten dimensions, known as Sefirot. Each body part reflecting and corresponding to the various energy compartments in the Upper Worlds. We are microcosms of the Universe. The month of Gemini, or the month of “Twins,” reveals to us the secret that has been hidden for far too long: a powerhouse of potential awaits within. The Creator’s energy is our essence and we, too, have the ability to create miracles and draw blessings once we connect to the Lightforce of the Creator we house within. The month of Gemini arrives to remind us of our divinely given true identity. It reminds us of the urgent need to awaken this “God gene.” For are there not broken hearts, hungry mouths, and weeping eyes in this world? Is there a shortage of people who are in need of care? It is when we act in ways of love, giving, and care, that we activate the Creator within. The Creator is a sustainer, and when we sustain others, we connect to all His energy and blessings. For when we give, it is truly we who receive.
People who are born under the influence of Gemini are intelligent. They are intellectuals, seeking and absorbing information at fast rates. They are known to be great communicators. But these qualities only skim the surface of the Gemini’s potential and spirit. The ruling planet of Gemini is Mercury. Mercury is associated both with communication in the physical world and with the integration of the physical and the spiritual dimensions. We begin to see all the parts at work during this month to encourage us to recognize who and what we truly are. Like a long-lost heir to the kingdom, we discover during this month the treasure that awaits us. A treasure that is our divine-given inheritance.
The month of Gemini is a time to form lasting unions, such as marriages, and is suited for meditating on the ways we can integrate the “twins” of the physical and spiritual worlds that live in all of us. It is a time for us to develop a deeper relationship with ourselves in order to reveal the Creator inside, whom we may have never even known existed. With the help of the celestial body of Mercury and the constellation of Gemini, we are to venture beyond a superficial level, and are able to make contact and communicate with the Creator within. Once this spark of God inside of us is awakened, we are able to begin to take control of our destinies and realities. Kabbalah teaches that it was not the Creator who split the Red Sea – the people did it. The cosmos this month beckons us to, at last, delve deeper to discover the hidden treasure buried within. The world is waiting. The world needs each one of us to offer to it the special gifts and unique love we were born to give. It is always in our own self-interest to initiate the journey of becoming like God, it is just a wonderful added bonus that others benefit too.
"We are all truly brothers and sisters."
I am reminded of the story of the stranded man at sea. He prays to the Creator to be rescued. First comes a boat, which he turns down, declaring that he was waiting for God to save him. Then comes a plane, and he turns it down, too, being very sure the Creator will come and rescue him. He eventually, however, passes away. When he reached the Upper Worlds and met with the Creator, he asked Him, “Where were You? I died in that sea. I prayed to You.” To which the Creator replied, “I had never left you. Who do you think sent you the boat and sent you the plane?”
In this month, may we all come to the realization that this Divine make-up is something we have in common with every soul on earth. We are all truly brothers and sisters with the same Father. We have in our hands the power to change the world, our lives, and to be like the Creator for others. In this way, when we help others, we know it is as if we have helped the Creator Himself.
